Violence Erupts During Land Demarcation Drive, Officials Injured and Hut Set Ablaze

A land demarcation and partial eviction drive turned violent on January 3, 2026, under the Lauria police station area, when a court-ordered operation faced stiff resistance from local elements. The administrative action was being carried out in Dubwaliya village following directions issued by the Deputy Collector Land Reforms (DCLR), Narkatiaganj, in a long-standing land dispute case.

The team, led by the Lauria Circle Officer acting as the magistrate, arrived at the site with adequate police force to ensure lawful implementation of the order. However, soon after the process began, members from the opposing side objected strongly and attempted to obstruct the officials from carrying out their duties.

What began as verbal opposition quickly escalated into physical confrontation. According to officials present at the scene, several individuals pushed and assaulted administrative and police personnel, resulting in injuries to the Circle Officer, police officers, and jawans deployed for security.

The situation further deteriorated when a temporary hut located on the disputed land was deliberately set on fire. The blaze created panic in the area, with villagers rushing away from the site as flames and smoke spread. Police personnel acted promptly to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage.

In a swift response, the police arrested fourteen individuals, including men and women, for their alleged involvement in the violence, obstruction of government work, and arson. Based on the statement of the Circle Officer, a case has been registered against the accused, and legal proceedings have been initiated.

Senior officials confirmed that the situation in Dubwaliya village is currently peaceful and under control. Additional police deployment has been ensured in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any further escalation.

Authorities have emphasized that interference in government work and violence against officials will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The incident once again highlights the sensitivity surrounding land disputes and the challenges faced by administrative teams during enforcement of court orders in rural areas.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
