Husband Arrested with Illegal Weapon in Bettiah Mufassil After Wife’s Assault Complaint

Bettiah, West Champaran:
The Bettiah Mufassil police have taken swift action against illegal arms after arresting a man for possessing a country-made pistol. The arrest was made on January 7, 2026, following a complaint received by the 112 Emergency Response Service.
According to the information, the victim called the emergency helpline stating that her husband was abusing and assaulting her at home. Acting promptly on the complaint, the 112 response team reached the spot and controlled the situation.
During the interaction, the woman informed the police that her husband had hidden a country-made pistol under the bed inside the house. On verification, the police conducted a legal search and recovered one country-made pistol from beneath the bed.
The accused was identified as Ramesh Paswan, son of late Shankar Paswan, a resident of Mahagarhi village, Ward No. 12, Bettiah Mufassil police station area, West Champaran district. He was arrested on the spot.
Police officials stated that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections for possession of illegal arms and domestic violence. Further legal proceedings are underway, and the accused will be sent to judicial custody.
The raid and arrest operation was carried out by the Bettiah Mufassil police team along with several officers, including the station in-charge and members of the ERV-112 and BSAP units.
Bettiah Police have appealed to the public to immediately report any incidents related to illegal weapons or domestic violence through 112 or the nearest police station. The district police have reiterated that strict action will continue against criminals to maintain law and order.
