Quack Doctors Continue to Endanger Lives in Narkatiaganj, Probe Report Sent to District Headquarters After Emergency Hospital Sealed

Despite repeated claims of action against quack doctors and illegal hospitals, the health department has now forwarded a detailed investigation report to the district headquarters after sealing the Emergency Hospital located in Narkatiaganj town. The hospital was shut down following the recent death of a woman during treatment, an incident that triggered outrage and serious questions across the city.

The report submitted by the health department highlights the misleading signboards displayed outside the hospital, the names of doctors written there, and the use of banners referring to political affiliations and so-called “National Human Rights” bodies to operate the hospital. The report clearly states that the institution was being run completely illegally.

Deputy Superintendent of Health Dr. Sanjeev Kumar stated that the hospital was sealed on January 5 after the death of Priyanka Devi, a resident of Chaturbhujwa village, who died during treatment. The complete report has been forwarded to the Civil Surgeon and further departmental action is underway.

There is widespread discussion in the town that the doctor concerned, Saddam Hussain, had restarted the hospital on September 3, 2021, even after it was earlier sealed, allegedly by misusing political connections and the name of human rights organizations. It was during this illegal operation that the woman lost her life, once again exposing the dangerous network of quack doctors.

The victim’s family staged protests in Narkatiaganj on January 6. At Shikarpur Police Station, the victim’s mother Musammat Suhana Devi lodged an FIR for murder against Dr. Saddam Hussain.

This case is being seen as part of a larger pattern, as similar incidents involving quack doctors claiming lives have been reported in the area every few months. Yet, even after hospitals are sealed, they often resume operations within days under new names and signboards.

At present, all doctors and health workers associated with the Emergency Hospital are reportedly absconding. Joint teams of the health department and police are conducting raids to trace them. The district administration has stated that strict action will now be taken against illegal hospitals and quack doctors to prevent such tragedies in the future.
