Bihar to Release Statewide Religious Calendar; District Coordinators to Promote Sanatan Dharma Across 2,499 Temples

24/11/2025  Rabita kumari  73 views

The Bihar State Religious Trust Council (BSRTC) has announced a series of major initiatives aimed at expanding the promotion of Sanatan Dharma across the state. The council will soon release a statewide religious calendar, which will be distributed through all registered temples and monasteries. The calendar will highlight important dates, rituals, festivals, and monthly observances.

BSRTC Chairman Ranveer Nandan informed that the council is preparing to organize an international conference on Sanatan Dharma in Rajgir in the coming months. The objective is to strengthen cultural and religious awareness and streamline temple activities across Bihar.

District Coordinators to Be Appointed — Only Mahants Eligible

To ensure better coordination, BSRTC has decided to appoint one coordinator in each of Bihar’s 38 districts. Importantly, only Mahants (chief priests) of registered temples or monasteries will be eligible for these positions.

Bihar currently has 2,499 temples and monasteries registered with the council.

These district-level coordinators will:

Serve as a bridge between the council and local temple administration

Oversee religious activities

Ensure compliance with BSRTC guidelines across their region

The selection process for coordinators is expected to begin within the next one to two days.

Key Responsibilities of the New Coordinators

Ranveer Nandan outlined several important responsibilities that coordinators must fulfill:

1. Mandatory Monthly Rituals

They must ensure that all registered temples and monasteries conduct:

Satyanarayan Katha on every full-moon (Purnima)

Bhagwati Puja on every new-moon (Amavasya)

These rituals are to be observed regularly in all temples under BSRTC’s purview.

2. Spreading Awareness Among the Public

Coordinators will also promote awareness of these rituals and their significance.

They must encourage households to conduct these pujas every month, not just temples.

3. Supervising Temple Activities

The coordinators will monitor:

Puja schedules

Priest meetings and religious events

Temple property records

Compliance with BSRTC rules

This supervisory system aims to improve transparency and strengthen religious administration in the state.

International Conference on Sanatan Dharma

The BSRTC is also preparing for a large-scale international conference in Rajgir focused on the global promotion of Sanatan Dharma. Scholars, saints, and representatives from various institutions are expected to participate.

A Major Step in Strengthening Temple Governance

These decisions mark one of the most significant administrative moves by the BSRTC in recent years. With statewide monitoring, structured temple activities, and religious outreach, the council aims to enhance cultural preservation and promote Sanatan traditions more effectively.

Bihar’s upcoming religious calendar and district-wise coordinator system are expected to bring greater order, consistency, and visibility to temple practices across the state.
